12 year old Toni Roberts
and 9 year old Krystal Reyes both “made the right call”
in 2005, when an emergency happened to their families.
Toni called 9-1-1 when her
mother fell off a ladder breaking her arm in several places.
She remained calm and gave the dispatcher precise
information about her mother’s injuries all while comforting
her toddler brother.
Krystal called
9-1-1 while trying to escape a fire that broke out in the
stairs leading to the family’s upstairs apartment. While
Krystal was running thru flames on the stairs she calmly
told the dispatcher her address and details of the fire
while helping her mother rescue her
two siblings.
Both girls were
recognized during the opening ceremonies if the Indiana NENA
conference in Indianapolis with medals and an award
along with a 250.00 gift card sponsored by Miner
Electronics. Indianapolis Zoo provided the family with
tickets to help the families enjoy a much needed relaxing
day out at the zoo with their “Heroes”.
