Indiana NENA Recognizes 2007 NENA 9-1-1 Hero

                              Khalil Boyd

7 year old Khalil, sprang into action and called 9-1-1 after he arrived home from school and his 22 year old sister passed out. Khalil’s sister, Chandra had recently returned home with a new baby and had contracted a post-partum infection that made her very ill. Just before passing out Chandra asked her brother if he knew how to call 9-1-1. Khalil remained calm, gave the dispatcher pertinent information and waited for emergency personnel to arrive. Regina Boyd, Khalil’s mother was at work at the time and if it had not been for his quick thinking and bravery, it may have been a while before anyone else arrived home. Khalil’s 9-1-1 training came from his mother.

The Boyd family, along with Indiana NENA 9-1-1 professionals are very proud that Khalil “Made The Right Call”.

                  Chazz Henderson

It was a very frightening day in April when Chazz Henderson found his mother lying on the kitchen floor of their home. Although he did not know if she was even alive, Chazz quickly called 9-1-1 and gave his address and details of the situation to the dispatcher. First on the scene, the responding Detective said that Chazz was waiting on the porch ready to direct him inside to his unconscious mother. Chazz then proceeded to take his younger sibling outside and comfort them assuring that everything would be alright.

Amazed, the Detective said that Chazz was “more of a parent than most parents I see”. Labeled a true hero, Indiana NENA could not be more proud of this brave young man.

Chazz 9-1-1 training came from a combination at school, the scouts, the boys club and his parents.
